Top 5 Reasons Why We Become Fat Without Realizing It
Losing fat isn’t always easy, we try anything and everything like crazy diets, stop eating by living on cabbage, walk 10,000 steps a day and slave all day on the treadmill. Yet it’s not working at all! Even if you managed to get the weight off it comes back magically as soon as you go back to your normal life. Why is this? Is there something else to the mystifying fat loss problem we all have?
The answer is quite simple; there are habits we have that make us fat. And we don’t even realize it! Let’s get down with it and demystify why we get fat from everyday life:
Reason 1 : Sleeping after a meal will make you fat
Sleeping after a meal is probably one of the things most people do, especially after having a fatty burger or Sunday lunch. The problem is that when we go sleep our body goes ahead and stores the food we just ate as fat since it doesn’t need it right now.
If you don’t wake up hungry then you are guilty of doing this. It’s a good idea to stop eating at least 3 hours before bed. If you simply MUST eating something then you can have a tea. But no more food !
Reason 2 : Not eating enough will make you fat
This is the first thing people do when they want to lose weight. They think that because they are fat the conclusion is that they eat too much and the solution must be to eat almost nothing. Skip to a few weeks later and it might have worked. However at this stage your body has learned that it’s not being fed. What does it do? Everything you eat from this point on WILL be stored as fat. This is why people who have lost weight gain it back and become even fatter than before!
So eating almost nothing doesn’t work at all, what you need to do is eat only 10% less than what your body needs to sustain itself. 10% is not much; it’s a lot less than you might think. However the fat will melt off if you do this. You should also eat 5-6 meals a day because when you skip a meal your body again will rather save that meal as fat. Your body does not know when you will eat in the future. It only responds to how it is feeling now, and if it’s starving it will save that food for later.
Reason 3 : Drinking sugary drink with fatty foods will make you fat.
Yes fast foods restaurants make it almost impossible for you to lose weight. Why? They all give you soft drinks with your fatty meal! This is the worst combination when you want to lose weight. The problem with sugary drinks is that they play havoc with your insulin levels. When you drink a soft drink your body will produce insulin to absorb all the sugar. This is to control your blood sugar levels. However when you eat pure fat with your meal that fat will be absorbed too.
Rather opt for water or even milk when you eat fatty foods or avoid fatty food altogether.
Reason 4: Losing muscle mass will make you fat
No, this is not the old myth that bodybuilders turn into a fat blob when they stop exercising. Muscle cannot turn into fat – its scientifically impossible. However muscle is your number one contributor to burning fat. The more muscle you have the more fat you will burn per hour.
So what does this mean? If you do not exercise and keep your muscle mass stable your fat burning rate will slow down. And that means you will gain more fat.
Reason 5. Stress and worrying makes you fat.
When we stress and worry our body excretes cortisol. This is not only mental stress but physical stress as well such as when we exercise too much and overdo it. Cortisol is a stress hormone that helps us to cope with the stress. However cortisol is only designed to help fight off stress short term such as when we get a fright etc. When cortisol is constantly in our bodies is have 2 effects on us: It makes us crave food and thus we eat more gaining fat. The second reason is that cortisol also promotes fat storage. Thus the more stressed you are the more food will get stored as fat.
It’s important for you to control stress and avoid over training when you want to successfully lose weight.
